ABOUT US

Our mission is to save life and limb through the establishment and implementation of mine action programs in Southern Sudan. Our aim for the next 5 years is to:

  • Build local capacity of Sudanese men and women from all regions of the country through the transfer of skills and resources to enhance self-reliance and community ownership of humanitarian mine action operations.
  • Reduce mine injuries and fatalities by risk areas marking and conducting large scale, accelerated landmine and ERW clearance programs as well as mine risk education projects.
  • Develop strategic collaborations with our stakeholders and new partners to maximize mine action services delivery and quality, and to meet other related objectives of our beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Our Vision A Sudan that is free of Landmines

OSIL’s vision is a Sudan that is free of landmines, unexploded ordnances and all war debris. We envisage:

    • A Sudan that is safe for its people and conducive to political, socio-economic and cultural development, peace and nation building.
    • A society where mine victims, disadvantaged &/or demobilized groups are re-integrated and where the production, use and transfer of landmines is altogether abhorred and banned.
    • An environment that promotes public awareness of this issue nationally, regionally and globally.
As one of the oldest indigenous mine action NGOs, OSIL strongly believes in and is committed to promoting local Sudanese ownership of humanitarian demining operations. We strive to:
    • Transfer skills and resources to local communities to enhance self-reliance.
    • Adopt an equal opportunities approach in all our projects, which does not discriminate against gender, tribe/culture, race and religion.
    • Create awareness of the impact of landmines on a micro level (individuals and families) and macro level (communities and the nation as a whole).
    • Promote peace and reconciliation in Sudan, and contribute to Sudan's socio-economic and environmental recovery.
