M2
Antipersonnel Mine

Description
The M2 series of mines are US designed bounding fragmentation mines. Mines in
the series include the M2, M2A1, M2A3, M2A3B1, and the M2A4. All the mines are
the sames except for minor design improvements. The dual action fuze can operate
either by pressure of tripwire. When the fuze is functioned, a chare at the
bottom of the mine projects a 60 mm mortar shell into the air and starts a delay
burn element. The delay element then ignites the main charge of the shell, bursting
the warhead. Copies of the mine have been produced in Taiwan and in Portugal
as the M/966. Although considered obsolete in US inventories, these mines may
still be found in other countries.
